Gracieuse Project

In 50 years, Quebec's population will be significantly older, with centenarians becoming more common and fewer young people. This shift makes it essential to rethink how we live together, as times and people will change. "Gracieuse" is a residential triplex designed for intergenerational living, bringing together elderly residents and students. College students benefit from affordable room rentals, and in return, they assist with certain daily tasks to support the senior residents. The building's overall form draws inspiration from waterfalls, with fluid, rounded curves that evoke the lightness and elegance of flowing water. Large glass bays add to this effect, giving the building an open, airy feel. The concept is based on three types of occupancy: short stays on the ground floor, medium-term stays, and long-term residency on the two upper levels. The primary residents are independent seniors between 65 and 75 years old with no cognitive impairments. Young students can rent micro-units on each floor, fostering a supportive community where generations can help one another.

"Gracieuse" integrates shared spaces with nearby buildings. Upon entering, there is a spacious study room on the right, designed to promote interaction while also providing quiet zones for focused work. A large storage area divides the space, accommodating shared cleaning supplies, clothes, and books. Additionally, a gym on the southwest side offers a healthy, welcoming environment, with views onto a sunny backyard. Above the gym, an open rooftop terrace invites residents and neighbors to gather, share quality time, and enjoy sunsets. The building's curves symbolize inclusivity and unity, bringing together people of all ages in a supportive community prepared to thrive as the elderly population grows in the future.
